5K Challenge

Welcome to the Information Page for the 5k Challenge.

The 5K Challenge will require the participant to run in three of the four events offered.  The three best times run out of the possible four events will be combined to declare a 5K Challenge Champion.

Aug 16th 2010 New Information on scoring of the challenge.  We had a little problem with the Kuna run, the top three runners went off course and ended up running a shorter distance.  It was determined that regardless of the mishap the three should have still received the placement they came in at, however using these times would not be fair to the rest of the runners that didn’t run the Kuna race, or those that ran the correct course.  In order to be as fair as possible for this year, we will be using the overall placement for the best three races offered in the series, and lowest points wins.   For example if runner 1 placed Second twice and Tenth once, your overall points for the series would be 14.  If runner 2 completed three races in First once, Eveleveth once and Eighteenth once, the total would be 30.  Runner one would be ahead in points by having less points than Runner 2.

The Top 5K Challengers will receive prizes, awards and recognition.

The Top 5 Women will receive free entry into the Elite Wave of the St. Luke’s Women’s Fitness Celebration 5K Race.  Post race the series winners will be escorted on stage and announced as winners of the 5k Challenge Series by Carolyn Holly as a part of the awards ceremony of the St. Luke’s Women’s Fitness Celebration 5K.  After the announcement’s have been made the winners will be escorted to just off the stage for a winner’s picture.

The Top 5 men will receive the honor of taking 5 spots on Tuxedo Row of the St. Luke’s Women’s Fitness Celebration 5K.  Once the race is completed and the duties of Tuxedo row are in hand, the top five men will be escorted by the top five women on stage and announced as winners of the 5k Challenge Series by Carolyn Holly as a part of the awards ceremony of the St. Luke’s Women’s Fitness Celebration 5K.  After the announcement’s have been made the winners will be escorted to just off the stage for a winner’s picture.  Then the men have the option of turning in thier Tuxedos and departing the stage, or continue the honor of escorting the race winners and award winners on stage.  This is considered quite an honor, so we hope the winners will make themselves available, and will enjoy supporting 5k races, especially on the stage that is so important to the St. Luke’s Women’s Fitness Celebration.
